Using Baker Street’s Burger Buns – which if you have any leftover from a family dinner, work perfectly for this dish – this sweet treat reminiscent of toffee apples combines juicy apples, chopped dates and sweet toffee sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 Baker Street Burger Buns
  • 2 tbsp butter, plus an extra 1 tsp butter
  • 2 apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp demerara sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp chopped dates
  • 4 tbsp toffee or caramel sauce
  • A small carton of ready-made custard

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 160ºC fan / 180ºC conventional / Gas Mark 4.
  2. Butter four oven-proof ramekins with 1 teasponn of butter.
  3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a frying pan and add the chopped apples, demerara sugar and cinnamon and cook for about 5 minutes until the apples are slightly softened. Set aside.
  4. Cut each pre-sliced Baker Street Burger Bun into 6 to make 12 pieces. Put 6 pieces into each ramekin.
  5. Divide half the dates between the ramekins, followed by half the cooked apples, half the custard, then add a drizzle of toffee sauce to each.
  6. Arrange the rest of the bread, dates, apples and custard on top.
  7. Place the ramekins in a deep oven-proof dish and pour hot water into the dish so that it goes about half-way up the sides of the ramekins.
  8. Place the dish into the oven and bake for about 20 minutes until golden.
  9. Drizzle over a little more toffee sauce just before serving.
