Fancy a hearty and properly satisfying sandwich for lunch? This Reuben Sandwich could be for you. Filled with slices of delicious pastrami, tangy sauerkraut, melted cheese and juicy pickles, all served inside slices of our rich and hearty Rye & Wheat Bread. The Reuben Sandwich is an American classic traditionally served on rye bread, and it usually includes corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and either Russian or Thousand Island dressing.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Baker Street Rye & Wheat Bread
  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tbsp Russian or Thousand Island dressing
  • 2-3 slices pastrami
  • 2 tbsp sauerkraut – from a jar
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • Slices of pickled gherkins – from a jar

Steps

  1. In a small pan over a medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter or margarine
  2. While the pan heats up, spread the softened butter or margarine on one Baker Street Rye &
  3. Wheat Bread slice, and on the other spread the Russian or Thousand Island dressing. Top the slice with the dressing on with pastrami, sauerkraut, cheese slices (either Emmental or Jarlsberg but you can just go for sliced cheddar if you want) and some sliced pickled gherkins. Add the buttered sliced of bread on top, butter side up.
  4. Once the pan has heated up and the butter has melted, carefully place the sandwich in the pan, with the buttered bread slice still on the top. After around 2-3 minutes, use a spatula and carefully flip over the sandwich, heating for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat, cut your sandwich in half on a bread board and serve
